Abstract
Since 2001, the Korea National Institute of Health has conducted the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES), a large-scale cohort project, to identify genetic and environmental risk factors and to develop early diagnosis and prevention strategies for major choronic diseases including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. A wide range of epidemiological/clinical data was collected through questionnaire with bio-specimen (blood, urine). To effectively collect, manage and distribute data from the cohort studies, the KoGES data management system has been operating since 2006. The system has functional features to support recruiting/retaining participants, managing appointments, digitizing questionnaire, and collecting data for various cohort studies. It also provides online data sharing service for researchers to download the collected data. The Division of Epidemiology and Health Index is on its way to developing the data analysis platform to enable researchers to access and process the data from remote points.
